I thought about creating a corner of my blog just for NaNoWriMo. Every year, and all the months in between, I set out to work on writing my book. Then, it occurred to me that maybe I should just chronicle the progress of writing a book.

Chapter One - Where it all began...

It all started in 2014 (or 2015, since I have a memory of a fish). It was pre-motherhood and my life was only limited by my imagination. I quit my job, moved to Montreal for the love of a cat (and her human), and thought about the next chapter of my life.

Little did I know, that this chapter would be a hard one. I would go through an unexpected pregnancy in a province where I knew little of the language. I would struggle with isolation far before a world pandemic hit. By the time, my second kiddo was born, my adopted mother would pass away. All this, even though it was a hard chapter in my life, would have been harder if I didn't have my writing or my art. Yes, I'll even add gaming and coffee. Life is hard without coffee. Simply put.

The one thing about my journey that I learned was to always keep getting back up when life puts you down. It ain't always easy, and sometimes all you have to do is just get out of bed, make yourself a cup of coffee, and step outside of the house. For me, it was just putting one foot in front of the other, sitting in front of the computer or a blank piece of paper, and marking it up. Not everything turned out to be a masterpiece. In fact, quite often, I was disappointed.

Still, I would show up to my pieces of nothingness and try to create something. Eventually, I would stumble on challenges that would help motivate me. National Novel Writing Month that happens every November where you attempt to write 50K words in 30 days. Every year, I would attempt to do this even after the kiddos were born. Writing, art, and gaming were all ways to clear my head and put emotions on the paper or screen.

Camp NaNoWriMo

Camp happens every April and July. The challenge is more flexible during these months. I can choose my own goal, and my own stress levels. This year, I plan to not choose a specific goal. Instead, I'm merely going to attempt to write every day. If I can write 500 words per day, I would be content. If I can write 2K words per day, I would be over-the-moon. Realistically, If I just write every day, little by little, my story will be closer to publishing. Yay~!

So, there you have it. You know my sob story, you know where I want to go, and you know my plan. I'll see you in the coming days. I'm crossing my fingers that I can write every day.

To be continued... HHP

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

I'm a creative mama based in Montreal with two kiddos with whom I lovingly call my cubs. I may have an addiction to coffee.
