The art of procrastination...

I have a confession to make. I've let things go. The start to my Camp Nano project stalled almost as soon as it started. Now, I don't want to make excuses, but I blame the blog. haha I waited until the last minute to start this blog. I put a lot of effort in it to make it look good. I worked a lot on my art, set up a Ko-Fi website, and brushed off my Society 6 website. I've been busy. That being said, I'm still working on my story, albeit a few words at a time.

Despite suffering from creative exhaustion, I'm also a mother. Motherhood in itself is exhausting and I commend the working mama's of the world. I salute you. I'm still learning how to plan out my day so that I can work on this blog, do my art, take care of the kiddos, and have a bath from time to time. Honestly, it's not that bad, but it is important to know when to rest. Rest, even when you have to put down your pen or paint brush for a bit.

So, rest I did.

Qu'est ce que c'est? Alien day?

During my rest period, I decided to work on a plan. I printed off a simple calendar to fill it with all of the things I wish to do. It was kind of fun and I learned that April 26 is Alien Day!!! WHAT?!?!

Apparently, as I was scrolling through my kiddo's school agenda, there is a "force majeure" happening on April 26.

Okay... Qu'est ce que c'est? Force majeure?

I turned to google and looked up holidays that could be happening that day. When I discovered it was Alien Day I was thinking it was E.T or those green little dudes you see from time to time occupying the internet space. With this in mind, I giggled and jotted it in my kiddo's agenda. Mostly for myself since French IS NOT my first language and I thought it would be a funny thing for the teacher to read.

Little did I know, Alien day is actually about the movies and all of its lore. When I discovered this, I wondered if the teacher would still get a laugh. Since writing in the agenda over the weekend, I have yet to hear back anything from the teacher or learn what "force majeure" is.

It's too bad the kiddos weren't older. I'd binge all of the Alien movies with them. I'm so looking forward to Alien Day and I'm seriously thinking about making some sort of fan art.

Moving the furniture...

My office is just a desk off the side of our dining room. Since moving to our house from an apartment last June, I thought that I would have a dedicated room, or area, for just my creative space. Then, as we unpacked, we dedicated areas to the kiddos, a creative space for my sweetheart to work on his music, and I ended up in the dining room. I'm not disappointed. It's a good place to keep an eye on practically the whole house. After all, it's a mother's job to play the hawk of the house.

The only problem with my "office" was that I still didn't feel like I was in an office, like I had my own space. So, on Wednesday, I decided to move the furniture around and VOILA! My experience in Sims has finally paid off! I have a space that feels like an "office/studio" and a space that is the dining area. Now, I can feel like I'm going to work instead of just sitting down at my computer. I still can't close the door but it's the step in the right direction.

Finally, getting down to writing...

I've been writing on and off this week. Again, just a few words here and there but I'm always moving forward. Drafting a novel has always been the hardest part for me at this point in my writing journey. I can never seem to finish and having done NaNo for so many years, I only have one draft of a story that is now lying somewhere collecting dust. Since this draft is a variation of the current story I'm working, I doubt that I'll edit it.

Instead, I will collect morsels of ideas to build my current story.

In a sense, I've already written the story and started a second draft, but I'm still counting it like a first or zero draft. I don't think I'll start calling an official draft until I'm satisfied that I've told the story like I wanted. At this point, I refuse to enter editing stage until my draft is right. Puzzle pieces. My story is just a bunch of puzzle pieces and sometimes the pieces belong to another puzzle. That's okay, but at some, I have to move past drafting and get into editing. Yikes. For some reason, editing sounds like torture!

How's it hanging? Thank you for taking the time to read my blog! This week has been busy with all things unrelated to writing (unless you count writing for this blog, ahaha). I learned how to edit videos and add them to my blog which is exciting. It also means I might be getting back to uploading to YouTube more regularly. Last week's video was a test to see what I could do with editing and this week...well, we'll see what I can come up with. Stay tuned and don't forget to check out my other sites if you feel the urge to support me! Wink wink!

Wait. I was going to say "have a wonderful weekend" and then I realized I still have my fan art popping up tomorrow! So, see ya tomorrow you cool cat! :P
