I went through a Tim Burton phase. It wasn't obsessive but I did see pretty much every film he put out into the world. Alice in Wonderland was one I thoroughly enjoyed. It had my favourite actors and that great Burton aesthetic.
Now, I haven't read the book by Lewis Carroll but it's on my list of things to read. Apparently, it's not even that long of a read, so I should get on that as soon as possible! I did manage to read the first few pages and it is enjoyable. It starts off like the Disney movie where Alice is bored and chases after a rabbit in a petticoat.
In the Time Burton version, I like that Alice is older. She's seems stuck in a society and she doesn't quite fit in. When she's expected to go with the norm, she runs away and follows the rabbit down the rabbit hole. In the rabbit hole she ends up on a journey to find her courage. I mean come on, she's told she's destined to slay a Jabberwocky! I'd need a lot of courage too!
I really enjoyed the film. Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen was my main reason to see the movie and Alice's character was the icing on the cake.

In my artwork, I'm trying to find my style. I didn't want to do another more realistic portrait as I sometimes try to do. I went for that style that you might find in a colouring book. The sketching was easier this time. Oz and Theodora was harder because I had a hard time finding pose for both characters. This time, it all seemed to fall into place in a matter of an hour instead of the days it took for my previous work.
Still, once I entered colouring stage, I kept thinking, "I hate this. This is horrible. I failed." I didn't realize that it "wasn't all that bad" until later that night after I took some distance from my work. Art is funny that way. You can hate it one moment and then love it the next. In any case, I still have many criticisms about this piece but I feel better about it.
We made it through another week! It's funny, once you get older the days seem to fly by. This weekend is already Easter! I feel like we just moved into the house still and the year is almost done! AMAZING!
In any case, have a great Easter weekend! I'll see you next week!
